Those frustrated by parking at O’Hare International Airport will be pleased with the airport's newly implemented technology. Soon drivers will be able to use their smartphones to locate empty spaces when parking and will be able to pay before they exit.
O’Hare has about 25,000 parking spaces and dozens of toll booth lanes that handle around 20,000 transactions daily. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, in 2010, O’Hare underwent 3.4 million paid parking transactions.
"If you think of how the parking garages operate downtown, at Navy Pier, etc., that's what the new parking system would look like," said Tammy Chase, spokeswoman for the Chicago Department of Aviation. "We'd have those machines that allow customers to pay before they exit or allow them to insert a credit card when they arrive and use the same credit card to exit."
The city is building a new rental car campus near O’Hare, with a budget of $393 million, financed by an $8 fee for renting a vehicle at the airport.
The new technology will make for a safer airport environment, getting people in and out efficiently. The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association recognizes enhanced safety as a way to lower insurance rates. In addition, term life insurance for pilots is a good option to protect them and their loved ones' financial security.
