The Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association annual summit, held in Hartford, Connecticut, from September 22-24 will feature a number of seminars for pilots, including a series on how to stay healthy and get the most out of aviation medical.
Medical deferrals are a difficulty for many pilots, and one seminar, hosted by Federal Air Surgeon Dr. Fred Tilton, NASA Chief Medical Officer Rich Williams and others will go through some of the more common mistakes pilots make that ultimately lead to one.
Dr. Jonathan Sackier will also lead a seminar on preventive measures for pilots that can teach how to stay healthy to ensure a successful medical examination. Topics will include dietary and exercise practices as well as an overview of the unique stresses aviation puts on the body, warranting special medical certification.
Other health seminars will include safety courses on recognizing symptoms of hypoxia and the bends and lectures with astronauts about air and space physical fitness.
A pilot's health is essential to his or her ability to perform in the air, and pilot insurance affords a pilot the peace of mind that he or she will be cared for in the event of a unique illness or injury. Just as a pilot needs to take special care of his or her body in order to deal with the rigors of flight, the right insurance policy is necessary to properly cover a pilot's needs.
