Atlantic City airport incorporates digital NOTAM system

Having the most up-to-date information can lead to a better flying environment for pilots, and the government is taking further steps to stress safety.
The Federal Aviation Administration recently announced that Atlantic City International Airport is now supplying digitally based notices to airmen. The information contained in these notices includes construction and other hazards.
Randy Babbit, FAA administrator, said the new digital system represents an important part of improving the country's aeronautical goals.
"This is yet another step the FAA is taking to modernize the national airspace system," Babbitt said.
Unlike the old system, digital NOTAMs can be distributed to everyone at the same time. Cockpits and air traffic control systems can also integrate the information, giving fliers a better idea what is going on.
The move to improve NOTAMs is part of a general push by the FAA to improve the air traffic system in the country. The centerpiece of this effort is the Next Generation Air Transportation System, which will use a GPS-based satellite system to track airplanes. A portion of this system was recently incorporated into an airport located near Philadelphia.
