Headphones and catalogs available at AirVenture

The Experimental Aviation Administration's AirVenture 2012 will feature the release of many products and announcements for the general aviation community. On opening day, Sennheiser released it S1 Passive headset for pilots.
The product is meant for pilots who want noise attenuation but do not want to use an active headset, according to company officials. Moreover, the headset is an ideal choice for flight students.
“As a reliable and comfortable companion even on the longest flights, the S1 Passive ensures safe and clear speech transmission between the cockpit and the tower, and at the same time has an extremely attractive price/performance ratio,” said Jörg Buchberger, aviation business segment manager. “It can also be perfectly adapted to the user. As a special extra, we have equipped the passive headset with our ActiveGard feature, which protects the pilot’s hearing against extreme volume peaks that can occur during radio communication.”
The headphones can be connected to cellphones, along with audio devices. When the tower needs to contact a pilot, music or phone calls are muted, allowing the tower to reach the aircraft.
Aircraft Spruce & Speciality began giving out its 920-page catalog during the AirVenture fly-in. The group's booth offers participants the catalog that is available in print, CD or PDF format free of charge.
Events like AirVenture should remind pilots to consider pilot insurance as a viable option in preparing for the future.
