Maine airport reopens with a warm welcome

The Brunswick Executive Airport is again open for business. The former U.S. Naval Air Station welcomed almost 300 aircraft to its runways during the rechristening ceremony the first week of June, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
"Brunswick Executive is already a success story," AOPA President Craig Fuller said at the event. "It’s entirely too rare that we see new general aviation airports open - although this is the first of two new airports I will be visiting this month."
The reopening of this location will create opportunities for local citizens that may have been curious about general aviation, to experience it for themselves. Increasing the number of people with a need to carry pilots life insurance is a great feat for the aviation community, the media outlet reports. In addition to bringing new pilots into the fold, the airport has also rekindled the flying bug in some local pilots.
"We hope this will be the catalyst to help grow Maine’s economy in the aviation sector," said Steve Levesque, executive director of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority, quoted by The Times Record.
