Norfolk International Airport will expand with $11.7 million

The Norfolk International Airport in Virginia will get an $11.7 million renovation starting later this year. The construction is a response to the expected increase in air traffic due to the service area changing in Hampton Roads.
"It is stressful to travel these days, so we're doing everything we can to enhance the passenger experience and provide a pleasant environment," said Wayne Shank, airport executive director, to PilotOnline.
The airport will streamline the travel process with an expanded security screening area, from four lines to six, and will ensure lines from not backing up into the lobby area.
The terminal lobby will receive a $3.9 million face-lift and the security expansion will account for the rest of the funds, or $7.8 million. This decision comes soon after the airport received $2 million from HMSHost to provide food services, including six new eateries in the terminal.
Norfolk International Airport reported an increase in passenger activity by 2.84 percent in the month of March, accounting for 258,133 passengers, along with 5,741,669 pounds of cargo shipped through the airport.
