Temporary flight restriction placed over Dallas airspace for Super Bowl

Officials are expecting a great deal of general aviation traffic in the Dallas area due to Super Bowl XLV being held at Cowboys Stadium on February 6, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
In an effort to keep the airspace safe, the Federal Aviation Administration has released a notice to airmen declaring a temporary flight restriction over the airspace near the the stadium. The changes will last from 3:30 PM until 11:59 PM CST on February 6. The 10 nautical miles above the stadium are being restricted to military and emergency medical aircraft, scheduled cargo and commercial airliners. Additionally, general aviation planes are not permitted to land at the three closest airports.
The FAA has set up an additional website with resources for pilots planning on flying in for the Super Bowl, including local airport layouts and related flying advisories.
Though the FAA has taken a number of precautions to secure the airspace and prevent accidents as a result of overcrowding, pilots still should take extra precautions due to the potential of elevated air traffic and pilots flying under the influence. Given the increased danger that flying into the event may pose, aviators should consider life insurance for pilots, to ensure their families are provided for in case they are involved in an accident on game day.
