Twin Commander Aircraft recently announced that its University Program will be held April 24-27 in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains. Company officials said the event looks to educate pilots and aviation enthusiasts on the latest maintenance, airframe systems, safety issues and products to enhance the overall flying experience. "The inaugural edition of the Twin Commander University delivered on those promises, setting a standard that has defined every such event," said Twin Commander Aircraft President Matt Isley. "Now, 17 years after that seminal conference, we look forward to the 2013 Twin Commander University in the venue that has proven to be the most popular over the years – Scottsdale, Arizona." Event-goers will have a chance to hear industry representatives from authorized service centers, engineers, key system vendors and owners speak on various issues. The event began in 1996 and was formerly known as the Service Center Symposium, featuring anything pertaining to aviation. Seminars this year will include pilot proficiency, power plant maintenance, safety concerns and new products. Aero Club Winter Icebreaker Social Those who can't wait until April for an aviation event can attend the Aero Club of New England's Winter Icebreaker Social at the Papa Razzi restaurant in Burlington, Massachusetts on February 20. This year's social will feature guest speaker Garry Kozak, who will offer his insight on salvaging the Sikorsky S-39 Amphibian, which was lost in a remote Alaskan lake nearly 55 years ago. "This wonderful evening at the Papa Razzi in Burlington will provide you with the chance to enjoy some great food and fantastic company," reads the Aero Club website. "Our special guest speaker is Garry Kozak, a world renowned salvage expert, who will give his presentation on the last flying Sikorsky S-39 Amphibian." The event costs $25 per person, which also includes appetizers. Those looking to attend the event need to fill out reservations by February 17. SUN 'n FUN fly-in this spring The 2013 Sun 'n Fun International Fly-in & Expo is another aviation event to add to the list this spring. The event will be held April 9-14 at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida. Event-goers will have the pleasure of being entertained by the United States Air Force Thunderbirds military jet team. In addition, the event will feature numerous aircraft and activities for aviation enthusiasts to enjoy. Those in general aviation are encouraged to look into pilot life insurance. As many of these events stress pilot safety, insurance is the only way to ensure a family's finances are secure.
