Upgrades to iPad aviation application will help pilots

A new addition to a popular aviation application on the Apple iPad is set to make the lives of pilots easier.
Hilton Software is adding Synthetic Vision to its WingX Pro7 application, which depicts three-dimensional high resolution airport runways, obstacles, weather patterns and terrain. The company developed Synthetic Vision in partnership with BA3, whose CEO and founder, Bruce Shankle, said the program is very useful.
"Our mission was clear: to design and build a high-performance first-of-its kind Synthetic Vision engine for iPad. In WingX Pro7 Version 6 you can see several hundred miles in every direction to get a sense of terrain, obstacles and runway layouts," Shankle said. "This new iPad technology is the kind of innovation that is a true game-changer… [it's] a must-have for any pilot, private or commercial."
Hilton Software also worked with Levil Technology to incorporate a new attitude and heading reference system that enables pilots to have real-time views outside the cabin, providing situational awareness to pilots flying at night or in reduced visibility.
Using the iPad application, pilots can now examine any airport around the United States from all altitudes. Aircraft owners can now plan their flight paths more accurately, visualize their route of travel and prepare for visits to airfields to which they've never been, all without having to worry about crashes and estate planning for pilots.
