Fatigue has serious impact on pilot safety

Flying in the evening presents many hazards such as low visibility and cold temperatures. However, one of the potentially worst dangers of late-night flying is fatigue, according to a recent article in Flying magazine.
The article notes how hazardous flying while tired can be, while naming a number of accidents caused by pilots who may have dozed off while flying late in the evening following a prolonged period of being awake.
"It is a well-publicized fact that while only 10 percent of general aviation flights are conducted at night, those flights result in about 50 percent of GA accidents," the source said.
Among the effects of fatigue that contribute to accidents, the source lists slowed reaction time, compromised problem-solving skills, reduced motivation and poor communication.
Fatigue is one of the many hazards that may come over pilots unexpectedly, but is very dangerous, as it can likely cause them to lose control of the aircraft, crash and potentially lose their lives. Life insurance for pilots enables them to plan for an unexpected fatal event, by having finances set aside to provide for their families in their absence.
