LightSquared GPS battle continues

As the battle between LightSquared and the general aviation community continues, the Coalition to Save Our GPS and the Aircraft Electronics Association has asked all pilots to contact the Federal Communications Commission.
LightSquared was granted the ability to offer wireless broadband services by the FCC in January, but it was discovered that the radio frequency the company uses disrupts GPS signals, possibly resulting in an increase in pilots life insurance claims. After significant backlash from the aviation community, the FCC told LightSquared that it could not launch its services until further testing had been completed, according to General Aviation News.
A thorough report was submitted to the FCC at the end of June and it showed that the company's operations would cause massive interference to GPS systems, the media outlet reports.
In an effort to further understand the potential problems LightSquared poses, the FCC has asked people to provide feedback on the report. AEA officials have suggested that anyone who may be affected by the system to express how GPS is used in their daily lives and how the potential interference should not be allowed by the FCC.
