NTSB ramps up general aviation safety at AirVenture

The National Transportation Safety Board will have 20 presentations pertaining to aviation safety issues at the upcoming annual Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in, AirVenture, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
The NTSB has increased efforts to advocate for safety within the general aviation community. At the event last year, general aviation safety was prioritized on the NTSB's Most Wanted List of Safety Improvements. This year, the NTSB released its first study on experimental, amateur-built aircraft. Even more recently the safety board held two forums on general aviation safety.
There are more than 1,500 general aviation accidents that result in nearly 450 deaths annually. These numbers have remained fairly consistent over the years, and the NTSB is increasing efforts to lower them. Pilot life insurance is encouraged throughout the general aviation community as a way to prepare for these unexpected accidents.
"In Oshkosh, we'll have tremendous opportunities to share lessons learned from our investigations with an enthusiastic aviation community," said NTSB Chairman Deborah Hersman. "In particular, we're look forward to interacting with experimental aircraft builders to relay the findings and recommendations from our E-AB safety study."
The weeklong AirVenture aviation event expects more than a half-million people from 60 countries.
