Pilot guide to celebrate 10th anniversary at AirVenture

July 11, 2012, 03:59 pm

The 10th anniversary of the Aircraft Electronics Association’s Pilot’s Guide to Avionics will be celebrated in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, during the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture.

The 2012-2013 edition of the pilot's guide will be a special feature marking its anniversary. The articles in the issue will include New Avionics Products for 2012; Training Time: Installing New Knowledge with Equipment; Combined Vision 2012; Electronic Engine Instruments: The ‘Other’ Glass Upgrade; Touchscreen Mania: The Infinitely Variable ‘Digital’ Interface, just to name a few.

The publication always includes a buyer's guide, educational articles and timely information pertaining to the aviation industry, its people and products.

The guide will be given out for free at the AirVenture event at Aircraft Electronic Association's booth. After its debut, the anniversary edition will be found in more than 1,300 government-certified repair stations around the world that specialize in repair, maintenance and installation of avionics and electronic systems in general aviation aircraft.

The back portion of the guide features a directory of AEA members who sell, install and service aviation instruments and equipment, keeping the aviation community connected. It also lists the manufacturers and distributors of these products, along with schools, engineers and consultants of the industry.

Thousands of copies of the guide are distributed throughout the United States free of charge to AEA members, National Association of Flight Instructors members, flying clubs across the U.S and at various trade shows.

The guide isn't the only tool being released for pilots. Garmin also recently announced the release of the GLO, a portable GPS and GLONASS receiver for mobile devices.

“As the first wireless GPS receiver with the ability to receive signals from both the United States’ GPS satellite network and Russia’s GLONASS satellite network, GLO provides the most comprehensive satellite coverage available,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “Whether you’re driving through an urban canyon or flying an airplane at any altitude, GLO ensures that your mobile device maintains a strong, reliable GPS signal.”

Utilizing GPS and GLONASS at the same time accesses 24 satellites and is 20 percent faster than using GPS alone. The technology connects wirelessly to Apple and Android devices via Bluetooth and will help improve pilots' efficiency and safety.

Pilot life insurance is another option in ensuring safety for loved ones, in the unlikely case of an emergency.
