Small plane crash kills one after landing in residential yard

A small plane recently crashed into the front yard of a northeast Phoenix home and exploded. The impact and flames killed the pilot who was trapped inside the plane and seriously injured the single passenger.
The Associated Press reported the single-engine plane crashed about a half-mile away from the Scottsdale Airport runway. The crash landing was in a residential neighborhood, but no one on the ground was hurt and no homes were damaged.
A witness told the source the plane was flying very low and then crashed into a yard before the aircraft burst into flames. The witness said the passenger escaped the plane, badly burnt and screaming for his friend, the pilot who was trapped inside the plane. The pilot was screaming for help and then the plane exploded again and the pilot was dead. The plane did not skid when it landed, rather it pancaked straight down into the yard.
Scottsdale news source KTAR reported witnesses found the injured passenger 40 feet from the plane. One witness told the source he emptied a fire extinguisher into the cockpit window, but it exploded and knocked him down. Then the plane exploded a second time, making it difficult for anyone to reach the pilot. The accident illustrates the importance of pilot insurance to safeguard against unfortunate events.
