Tragic weekend at U.S. air shows

Two airmen were killed performing stunts at two separate air shows recently. During the Kansas City Air Show at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City, Missouri, Bryan Jensen, an experienced professional pilot who flew for Delta, lost control of his modified show biplane during a maneuver and crashed into the ground.
A day later, acrobatic performer Todd Green fell approximately 200 feet to his death while performing a wing-walking stunt at an air show at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
The tragic accidents underscored the inherent risks of what is a highly regulated and safety conscious profession. Jensen, an Iowa native, had been flying planes since the age of 16, logging more than 23,000 hours of flight time, according to the source. Green's accident, officials noted, occurred while he was attempting to transfer from the wing of an airplane to a helicopter, a stunt he had successfully performed in similar weather conditions the previous day.
Officials from both Air Shows expressed sympathies for the victims, their friends and families and the spectators who witnessed the events.
