A pilot and his passenger escaped a potentially dangerous crash in Minnesota recently, escaping virtually unscathed due to the pilot's quick thinking and emergency execution, according to Fox 9 Twin Cities.
The pilot, James Chuk, was forced to make an emergency landing in a farm field in Clinton Township, Minnesota, after the cockpit of his airplane filled with smoke, the result of an apparent engine failure, the source noted.
Chuk's plane flipped over when it crashed through a barbed wire fence, but both he and his passenger, Christian Werdier, escaped without major injury. The source stated that Chuk was unharmed and Werdier suffered only a minor laceration when he exited the plane.
While both are lucky to have avoided major injury, Chuk's execution of the emergency landing under duress was an exceptional example of technical expertise and poise under pressure.
Many pilot organizations offer aviation training and supplemental safety courses for extreme flight situations. These organizations also often provide group pilot insurance coverage at discounted rates, giving aviators insurance coverage that typical insurance policies may not cover.
