American Airlines announces 'Your Choice' plan

With the economic recovery still in its relatively early and fitful stages, some airlines are finding new ways to appeal to their customer base.
For example, American Airlines announced a new "Your Choice" service plan this week aimed at giving its customers more flexibility than ever when making their travel plans.
According to the airline, customers can purchase a Boarding and Flexibility package when they are buying their tickets. The package has features that allow people to be among the first to board their plane and to standby for earlier flights on their day of departure for no extra charge. Travelers who need to change an itinerary would also receive a $75 discount off of the regular service charge for doing so.
"We're excited to offer customers options to tailor each travel experience to their preferences," said Dan Garton, American's executive vice president of marketing.
Through efforts such as these, along with renewed momentum in the overall economy, airlines are likely to see improved revenue streams in the coming months. This is likely to translate into a higher demand for pilots and other workers when considering the cuts that many of these companies were forced to make during the recession.
