AOPA President: LSA is future of GA

The newly popular light sport aircraft has been referred to as the future of general aviation by the president and CEO of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Craig Fuller, according to General Aviation News.
Fuller recently spoke to members of the Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association during a gathering at the U.S. Sport and Aviation Expo, which took place in Florida. According to General Aviation, Fuller recounted when he first began to believe that light aircraft were essential for the continued success of GA.
His first experience was with his presidential predecessor for AOPA. When describing a flight they took on a LSA, Fuller reportedly told the audience "it was very apparent to me that there was a lot of excitement there." The event that solidified his belief in LSA, however, was the global GA show AERO in Germany, which made him realize the passion still existed for aviation in Europe, despite economic hardships there. In order to continue flying despite the financial difficulties, Fuller said some Europeans "turn to soaring, but many of them turn to light-sport aircraft."
Though a light sport aircraft license takes less time to acquire, it requires just as much caution to maneuver and may also result in fatal accidents. Life insurance for pilots is an important consideration, no matter what type of aircraft the pilot flies.
