The conclusion of the financial analysis was recently released pertaining to the cost of renovating Aspen-Pitkin County Airport in Colorado. The improvements are projected to cost $171.3 million but are feasible without spending local taxpayers dollars, according to airport officials.
The updates of the airport include a new terminal, parking facilities and the addition of a second fixed-base operator. A five-year construction plan for the terminal has been laid out under the financial analysis, while the master plan puts forth the next 20 years of planning. The terminal has $120.8 million of the funds allocated to its construction, associated roads and parking construction, including a 750-space parking garage which will nearly double in size to 1,300 spaces.
The financial analysis and plans for construction will be laid out to county commissioners in the near future in hopes of moving the plan forward.
“None of the financial plan suggests any local tax burden on the citizens - zero,” said Aviation Director John Elwood. “In the eyes of the Federal Aviation Administration, what they want to see is if the concepts in the master plan are reasonable - can they be reasonably accomplished.”
The airlines serving the airport are United Express and Republic Airlines. Pilots providing services for these airliners should consider pilot life insurance as a way to secure their own finances.
