Association suggests plans to aid civil aviation

The aviation industry has been discussing ways to sustain the sector. Some focus has been geared towards getting, and keeping, students interested in the math and science fields. Other initiatives have been aimed at creating work environments that make people want to stay in the industry.
The Aerospace Industries Association says the government is needed to help the industry to address environmental and energy concerns - two major factors facing civil aviation.
AIA president and CEO Marion Blakey says civil aviation is vital to the world's economy.
"The global economic slowdown has masked the limitations of our national airspace system. Even so, full economic recovery requires a strong civil aviation sector," says Blakey. "If we're to meet the rising demand for civil air transportation in an environmentally responsible way, we're going to need strong public investment in sustainable aviation infrastructure."
The aviation industry has long been looked at as a large contributor to air pollution. Recently, the AIA made several recommendations in their report to better civil aviation. Their suggestions included devising a "cash for carbon" program and focusing on NextGen technology.
