Aviation business to boom in Sioux City

Aviation Consultant Expert Solutions, an aircraft maintenance business, recently announced it will be opening a new plant at Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, Iowa, to bring jobs to the local community. ACES owners signed a 20-year lease for a city-owned hangar, and are expected to create 50 jobs for Federal Aviation Administration-certified mechanics in the area.
The Sioux City Journal reported the 50 open positions will receive an annual salary between $40,000 and $60,000, and will help ACES service regional and commuter commercial jets. Jim Sponder, ACES co-owner, said many airlines fly their planes to small cities to have repairs and maintenance done on them. Therefore, Sioux City is a good location for a repair plant in the center of the country.
The company has leased a 24,000-square-foot hangar floor and 12,000 square feet of shop and office space. ACES is funding the expansion with financial assistance from the Targeted Jobs Withholding Tax Credits Program that aims to support industries that can boost local economies, KTIV reported.
ACES will handle not only a maintenance repair operation out of the Sioux City location, but also perform aircraft checks and modifications on passenger jets. So far, it has already recruited 34 highly skilled aviation professionals to launch the new location and will continue to fill the remaining 50 positions, ABC affiliate KCAU reported.
Pilots working with ACES or the Sioux City airport should invest in pilot insurance to protect themselves and their passengers.
