Contest calls for student aviators

Aspiring student aviators can put their talents to good use by entering the Aerospace Industries Association's world's largest rocket competition.
The competition challenges student teams to design and build their own rocket. Teams will send their rockets 750 feet into the sky with a raw egg on board and aim to safely return in one piece.
Teams will get more than just bragging rights if they win. Scholarships, $60,000 in prizes and a trip to next year's international air show are up for grabs.
Registration is open for up to 750 students until November 30 of this year.
AIA president and CEO Marion Blakey says the contest is a way to engage students in aviation.
"The Team America Rocketry Challenge is a vital part of our industry's outreach to young people," says Blakey. "TARC provides a great opportunity for students to work with scientists and engineers and learn in an exciting and fun environment."
Engaging students and keeping them interested, in aviation is important for the industry's long-term success. Research has shown that many students lose interest in the field as they get older.
