FAA reauthorization toted as a path to job creation

The Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill has finally been brought up in the senate, but not in the form many expected to see it appear, according to the Associated Press.
The news source says that the bill has been recast as an "infrastructure and jobs program," and is being marketed as a mechanism to open up a number of employment posts across the country. In the bill, democratic leaders are asking for $8 million in funding, which would be enough to extend the services of the FAA for the next two years.
The American Association of Airport Executives has estimated that it will create 90,000 positions within the aviation field, and may create 190,000 additional jobs in other related industries, according to the AP. By rebranding the bill in this manner, those supporting it hope it will be viewed in line with the call to action from President Obama's State of the Union address, where he encouraged job creation through transportation improvement efforts.
The FAA plays an important role not only in advancements in the aviation field, but also in safety mandates and regulations that affect pilots. However, FAA efforts are not always enough to protect pilots from the hazards they may face while in flight. Pilots should consider pilot insurance and make it a priority to ensure their families are taken care of, should they perish in an accident.
