It's well-known that women are in the minority when it comes to the aviation industry. While the number of female pilots may be small, that doesn't mean their contributions to the field are any less important.
This year, female aviators will be highlighted at the Centennial of Women in Aviation at California's Mather Airport this month. California Capital Airshow executive director Darcy Brewer says people will be impressed when they learn of the accomplishments of some female pilots.
"We are honored to share these remarkable women as they will leave an impression that will last a lifetime," says Brewer. "All of these women are remarkable in their own way and a true inspiration to others."
Jessica Cox, who is a FAA-certified sport pilot born without arms, will be at the event. Joining Cox will be Lieutenant Meagan Flannigan, the last qualified female F-14 Tomcat pilot.
For those interested in learning more about women's role in aviation, the Ninety-Nines Museum of Women Pilots in Oklahoma City, OK. The museum highlights the accomplishments of Amelia Earhart to current female aviators.
