Some people with a fear of flying may be worried about things like their pilot's safety record and the maintenance background of their plane. However, recent media reports suggest that passengers may want to be more concerned about the food they are served on some flights.
Passengers have long joked and complained about the quality of airline food, and it turns out there may be something to their criticism.
According to a report from USA Today, government documents indicate that inspectors with the Food and Drug Administration have issued numerous citations for suspected health and sanitation violations by catering facilities that produce airline food.
The newspaper added that some of the violations cited by the industry's three leading airline caterers included food being stored at improper temperatures, poor worker hygiene, insufficient pest control and unclean equipment.
Meanwhile, a recent blog posting on the New York Times website notes that airlines in both North America and Europe have been scaling back their dining options as they continue finding new ways to cut costs.
