Helicopter Association International holds first GA forum

The Helicopter Association International, which recently announced it was looking for input from aviation industry insiders on improving helicopter safety, recently held its first general aviation forum, according to AINonline.
The group's General Aviation Association CEO Forum, which was held at the Heli-Expo convention, brought together leaders of major general aviation groups in conjunction with HAI.
The groups in attendance included the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, the National Business Aviation Association and the National Association of State Aviation Officials.
One of the major issues discussed during the meeting was the importance of the Federal Aviation Administration opening up rules for input by actual industry insiders, the source said.
"We call that rulemaking by interpretation. When regulators can change rules on their own and call it policy, then it affects industry absolutely catastrophically," said HAI President Matthew Zuccaro.
Rulemaking without the input of actual pilots is potentially even more dangerous when the rules concern safety measures. However, even if the input process is improved, pilot life insurance should be used as a protective measure at all times so a pilot's family can be provided for, in the event that they die in a fatal accident.
