International Learn to Fly Day supported by U.S. House

May 14, 2010, 05:29 pm

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a measure recognizing a day that encourages people to learn how to fly.

According to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, International Learn to Fly Day was recognized by the legislative body through a resolution passed on May 12. The AOPA said the event presents the opportunity to encourage people to become pilots.

"On International Learn to Fly Day, pilots and aircraft owners worldwide are encouraged to take someone out to the local airport to meet fellow pilots, watch aircraft takeoff and land, or even go for their first flight," the organization said.

The AOPA noted that through the resolution the legislative body highlighted the efforts of people and organizations who work to develop new pilots across the country.

Along with creating new pilots, the AOPA has made a push to support general aviation as a whole through a national campaign that features celebrity spokesmen Harrison Ford and Morgan Freeman. Those who run facilities that support general aviation have also been encouraged to open their doors to their communities, as this can enlighten people to the role the industry plays locally.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19778604-ADNFCR
