Mississippi airport asking for less money

In a time where cities and towns are constantly struggling to find ways to cut programs and in order to make their annual budgets, one local airport is actually requesting less money for it's financial needs, according to the Laurel Reader-Call.
The Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport, in Southern Mississippi, has asked for a $9,548 decrease in funds from the Jones County Board of Supervisors for its 2011-12 Fiscal Year budget.
"Our general aviation business is growing by leaps and bounds," Tom Heanue, the airport's executive director, told supervisors at their meeting, quoted by the media outlet.
The revenue at the airport grew by 30.5 percent over the last 12 months, giving officials the ability to pay off a Mississippi Development Authority hangar loan. The incredible growth in the local general aviation industry may lead to an increase in sales of pilots life insurance policies as more people enter the market.
Heanue noted that the airport will be seeking a grant from the Mississippi Department of Transportation's Multi-Modal program to help construct a new 100-foot by 100-foot hangar in order to accommodate the growing business.
