Nevada aviation industry eyeing future growth

Two Nevada airports are set to benefit from federal funds announced by two prominent members of the state congressional delegation.
In an announcement, Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign said that Fallon Municipal Airport would receive just over $1.5 million to rehabilitate its runway and lighting systems. The two senators also indicated that Nevada's Silver Springs Airport would receive about $80,000 to analyze alternate solutions for drainage and storm water diversion issues.
"These grants will help ensure the safety of Nevadans and visitors who use our airports. By making these upgrades, both the Fallon and Silver Springs airports will meet current standards and be sustainable for years to come," said Reid, while Ensign added that "safety is the chief concern for aviation in the state."
In another recent development for aviation in the state, a report in Northern Nevada Business Weekly notes that local officials are working to establish a cluster of aircraft maintenance companies in this area.
A key step toward this goal was reportedly taken in the form of an announcement earlier this year involving a jet aircraft maintenance facility planned at Reno Tahoe International Airport.
