New GA caucus is recruiting members

The new General Aviation Caucus released a statement encouraging other Congressional representatives interested in aviation to join, according to the group.
The new chairmen of the caucus, representatives Sam Graves of Montana and John Barrow of Georgia, did not only direct their letter towards members of congress who are already involved in aviation, but also encouraged those who aren't familiar with the industry to join as well.
The profitability of general aviation is one of the factors that the representatives' letter harps on. "There are more than 223,000 active GA aircraft in the United States, which serve nearly 19,000 small and regional airports - many more than the 500 commercial airports in the U.S.," the caucus' letter says. These airports are beneficial for those who cannot easily access commercial airports, according to the caucus.
It is beneficial for pilots to have strong representation in Congress to advocate for legislature that promotes flight safety and protects the General Aviation industry from laws that would impose undue expenses or bureaucratic measures that hinder their ability to fly. However, though groups such as the GA caucus protect pilots, only pilots can protect their families if they are involved in a fatal accident, by ensuring they have adequate pilot insurance coverage.
