A small plane crashed last month in Crystal Lake, Illinois, killing four people. A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board believes that weather conditions could have been a major cause of the mysterious crash.
The Crystal Lake Patch reported that the local coroner's office confirmed all four passengers died on impact. The pilot was reportedly flying under visual flight rules and did not have an instrument rating, which would have enabled him to land at DuPage Airport. However, at the time of the crash, the pilot flew over the airport landing strip and lost site of the airport.
The source reported the pilot was in communication with air traffic controllers at the airport, and was unsure as to where he should land. The pilot was concerned about being stuck on the ground all day as inclement weather was rolling into the area. Pilot insurance can help from damage due to poor weather conditions.
Similarly, a plane recently crashed off the Gulf Coast, and officials are still finding bodies from the accident. Gulf News reported six people are still missing from the crash site, as seven of the expected 14 bodies were found days after the incident. The wreck created so much debris that officials have yet to clear the crash site days after impact occurred.
