Newark Airport regains last spot for on-time arrivals

Newark Liberty International Airport recently regained its title as the most tardy airport. In 2011, the New Jersey airport came in second to last on the ranking of 29 major airports with the highest percentage of on-time arrivals and departures in years during November 2011, losing the last spot to San Francisco International Airport. It did not take long for them to get that position back.
Only 73 percent of planes at Newark arrived and departed as planned, compared to Salt Lake City, which was on schedule 89 percent of the time.
Airport officials have said in the past that the problem is the high volume of traffic through Newark and poor weather.
The U.S. Department of Transportation recently said that, on average in May 86.3 percent of flights landed within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time. That number is up from 82.2 percent in March and 75.5 percent in April.
Hawaiian Airlines and AirTran Airways were at the top of the department's list of airlines at 94 percent on-time ratings, while American Airlines came in last with 81 percent.
