Organization plans to fight declining number of pilots

In light of an expected shortage of pilots in the near future, the National Association of High School Aviation Clubs (NAHSAC) has established a plan. The organization intends to establish an aviation club in every high school across the nation.
"There has never been a better time for any young person who is interested in an aviation career to prepare themselves for the unprecedented opportunities that are opening up in the aviation industry," said Captain David C. Koch, executive director of the Center for Airmanship Excellence, a sponsor of NAHSAC.
NAHSAC's announcement was made at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-Purdue University ACE Academy. The organization intends to provide better insight into the aviation industry for parents and high school students, and will educate potential pilots about employment opportunities. NAHSAC intends to increase the number of pilots in the country by raising interest and enthusiasm for the field.
The FAA reports that in 2010, there were 627,588 certified pilots in the United States. This was an increase from 584,285 in 2009, but 2011 is expected to experience a decline to 618,660. There were nearly 830,000 certified pilots in 1980, the highest number recorded. Pilot life insurance is important for all aviators.
