Pilot injured in North New Jersey plane crash

A single-engine Cessna recently made a very hard landing off the runway at Lincoln Park Airport in North New Jersey. The pilot was rushed to Chilton Hospital in stable condition, and was the only passenger on the plane.
The Associated Press reported the pilot, Ilya Kleyn, suffered minor facial lacerations and experienced back and neck pain. Witnesses told NorthJersey.com they saw Kleyn's airplane scraping the ground as it approached the runway from the north. Kleyn decided to accelerate and veer off to the side, causing the plane to crash into trees and marshes located near the airport.
The Lincoln Park Police Department, Fire Department and Morris County Hazardous Materials Unit rushed to the scene, which required professional cleanup due to fuel leaking from the aircraft, the source reported. The plane was rented for a three-hour flight from Aero Safety Training Limited.
North Jersey reported this is not the first small plane crash to occur at the airport this year. In July, a small plane experienced electrical failure causing the pilot to lose control of the aircraft. The plane hit a fence at the end of the runway, and injured a male passenger. Further, in February, another small plane injured a pilot when it crashed trying to land at the airport. To protect themselves from the financial burden of a crash, pilots should invest in pilot insurance.
