Plane severely damaged in crash but pilot unharmed

No one was hurt when a plane crashed at the Griffin-Sandusky airport in Ohio, this month.
The Toledo Blade reports the plane, a single-engine low-wing Commander, veered into the grass next to the runway while attempting a landing. The left wing struck the ground and sent the plane back onto the landing strip. The propeller and landing gear struck the asphalt, bringing the plane to a stop. The 69-year-old pilot was flying solo and escaped without a scratch, but his plane was not so lucky. The damage caused by the crash was severe enough to require machinery to remove the airplane from the runway.
The plane is residing in a nearby hangar while the Federal Aviation Administration and the National transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident. The pilot, Joe Greene, reported a crosswind as he tried to land, according to the Fremont News Messenger.
Unfortunately, not every pilot will be as lucky as Green in the event of a crash, so it may be a smart idea for them to have pilot life insurance.
