NASA recently announced that 25 university students will receive scholarships in the third year of one of its programs. Undergraduate winners will get $15,000 for two years to cover tuition expenses, along with $10,000 while serving as interns for the space agency. Graduates who got scholarships will get about $35,000 every year for as many as three years, along with $10,000 for up to two internships. Through their internships, students will work within NASA on projects involving air-traffic management, reducing emissions and making aeronautics safer. "These scholarships have a double benefit. They help students link their interests with possible future careers, and they help NASA identify and develop the skills needed to fulfill the agency's aeronautics mission," said Jaiwon Shin, an administrator in the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate. Along with these scholarships, NASA announced this year that it is working with students in Hawaii to improve satellite technology and development. Through the collaboration, a new program called HawaiiSat will be developed at the University of Hawaii's Space Flight Laboratory. The agreement with the state spans three years and will encourage education initiatives.
