Southeast Aviation Expo to help with jobs

September 27, 2012, 03:56 pm

Two forums titled Training and Careers in the Aerospace and Aviation Industry and How to Become a Pilot are being held at the Southeast Aviation Expo at Greenville Downtown Airport in Greenville, South Carolina to encourage career paths in the aviation industry.

“Aviation industry news stories frequently contain passages like ‘Half of the Boeing work force will be eligible to retire in five to seven years’; 800 to ,1000 Air Traffic Controllers will be needed in the next 10 years; ‘Boeing has predicted over 600,000 new Aircraft Maintenance Technicians will be needed between now and 2031," said Joe Frasher, airport director of the Greenville Downtown Airport. "These are just a few examples of the tremendous need our industry has for workers. Everyone knows that people need jobs, especially in these economic times."

Frasher added that nowadays there appears to be a disconnect between what fields people are choosing to enter and train for, and what jobs are really out there that need filling. He said there are plenty of good-paying jobs within the aviation industry including engineers, attorneys, physicians to pilots, air traffic controllers, flight instructors and meteorologists.

The Careers and Training in the Aviation and Aerospace Industries forum will be led by Jason Prem, co-owner and CEO of ADEX Machining Technologies. Premo will share his insights and knowledge with event goers and will fill them in on career opportunities with high wages. Considering the shortage of skilled workers across the nation, high wages and training options are available.

The How to Become A Pilot session will be led by Airwolf Aviation Services. Any event goers looking to streamline their way to a pilot career should attend this forum. Airwolf representatives will speak about several aviation training schools like USAeroTech, which has a one-year accelerated aircraft maintenance program and Liberty University School of Aeronautics, which offers a wide range of aviation degrees.

The Southeast Aviation Expo is on September 29, lasting for two days, and will also feature Craig Fuller, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association president, and Doug Murphy, Federal Aviation Administration Southern Region regional administrator.

James Stephens, program manager at the South Carolina Aeronautics Commissioner, said the perspectives of these two men are highly valued considering the changes going on the industry.

"I think many want to hear from Mr. Fuller and Mr. Murphy what they can expect the future to bring,” Frasher said.

For pilots in the industry looking for peace of mind, pilot life insurance is a viable option.
