Storms hit airport hangar

As storms continued to wreak havoc in West Michigan on Tuesday, four people were hurt and two general aviation hangars were destroyed at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport, showing that even on the ground pilots' life insurance may be a smart option. While the winds at the time of the incident were only clocked at 45 miles per hour, they managed to blow two separate hangars off of their foundations, according to WOOD-TV. The damage was confined to the north section of the airport where the two hangars collapsed.
There was confusion among the people inside the hangars when the storms hit and they opened the main doors, allowing the wind to blow in and lift the buildings off of their support structures, according to WWMT-TV. "It is, it is kind of crazy," Christine Lacome, a hangar owner at the airport, told the news source, "we're thankful that the four people we heard about in the hangar are safe."
The injuries were caused by debris from the destroyed building structures, sending one of the victims to the hospital for treatment of a head laceration, the media outlet reports. The remaining victims were able to be treated on the scene.
