A report from the city of Tallahassee, Florida, shows that the city's regional airport adds $377 million every year for the area's economy.
Furthermore, the airport, which serves general aviation pilots, sustains 3,960 jobs every year. The study was done by Wilbur Smith Associates and was commissioned by the Florida Department of Transportation.
To create further economic benefits tied to the airport, the airport is taking part in Tallahassee's Fast Track Program. Nine projects at the airport are part of the program, which is designed to create jobs.
Recently, Bill Dunn, vice president of local airport advocacy for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, gave a talk emphasizing the importance of pilots letting communities know the role local airports play in an area's economy.
To highlight this, Dunn suggested that general aviation airports hold open houses, which will given community members the chance to see the airport in action. The AOPA has also run a campaign for the last year to stress the value of general aviation on the nation's economy as a whole.
