Travel week stresses importance of industry in economy

This week marks National Travel and Tourism Week, which may give members of the general aviation community a reason to show how important their industry is to local communities.
The U.S. Travel Association has established the Power of Travel Coalition, which will try to relay the effect the industry has on the country's economy. It will also attempt to create a grassroots effort to fight detrimental legislation.
"The Power of Travel coalition will enable us to instantly educate and activate travel industry employees and vendors on a moment's notice when their industry needs them most," said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the association.
The Travel Association is not alone at trying to show how important things like air travel are on the economy. For example, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has run a campaign forthe last year trying to highlight the role general aviation plays in economies.
The AOPA has recommended that those who run general aviation facilities host open houses, which will give community members a closer look at how they operate and what they do for an area.
