US Airways notified 101 students that they are the recipients of the more than $250,000 available for scholarships through its Education Foundation. The airline received approximately 400 applications for the scholarships, which could only be awarded to children of US Airways employees.
"One of the best ways we can serve our employees and our communities is to support the continuing education of tomorrow's leaders,” said Elise Eberwein, executive vice president of people, communications and public affairs for US Airways. “Like their parents who work as US Airways' crewmembers, mechanics, customer service representatives and fleet representatives - to name a few of the workgroups who have dependents receiving scholarships for the upcoming school year - we, too, are extremely proud of this year's recipients.”
The cumulative GPA of the 101 students receiving the college scholarships is 3.8.
US Airways was also named among the 40 Best for Vets employers for 2012, amongst the 1,000 companies surveyed by Military Times Edge Magazine. The company's philanthropy may result in increased customer loyalty. For the many pilots meeting the traveling demands, pilot life insurance is a viable option before takeoff.
