US-Brazil aviation agreement reached

April 18, 2012, 09:52 am

President Barack Obama and Brazilian President Rousseff recently enhanced an already strong economic relationship with the signing of a new aviation partnership memorandum. Signed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Brazilian Secretary of State Antonio Patriota, the partnership memorandum builds on an open skies agreement to promote safer air travel between the two countries.

Another way to promote safer air travel all over the world is through investment in pilot insurance.

The aviation partnership memorandum will encourage aviation industry leaders and business travel groups to continue their excursions between the United States and Brazil, but also promote more tourism and exchanges to enhance both economies. The United States will be opening two new consulates in Brazil, one in Belo Horizonte and one in Porto Alegre, to make it easier for travelers between the two countries to obtain visas, travel and promote communication between residents and communities.

Clinton and Patriota are encouraging organizations, businesses and individuals in Brazil and the United States to identify concrete ways for the two nations to collaborate to improve economic growth, education, energy innovation and other critical fields. Clinton and Patriota promised to work with lawmakers in both countries to discuss new ways to advance both nations through the cooperative partnership.

The next time Clinton and Patriota will meet will be at the U.S.-Brazil Global Partnership Dialogue conference during Rousseff's visit to the United States. The conference will reflect the depth and positive focus of the bilateral relationship, and will include panel discussions on business and trade advancements, educational innovation and economic cooperation. Obama will also showcase his 100,000 Strong in Americas goal alongside Rousseff's Science without Borders initiative.

"The policies we embrace and the investments that we make will shape our shared future, and we are developing strong habits of partnership and cooperation," Clinton said. "And that is not, as you know so well, a job solely for governments. In fact, it is actually more the job for the private sectors, our universities, our civil societies, our citizens."

Obama is welcoming continued progress on aviation and infrastructure cooperation between the two nations. The aviation partnership memorandum aims to provide a coordinated venue for both countries to address aviation sector priorities, including technical cooperation on aviation infrastructure, air transportation and air traffic management technologies.
