The Nebraska Aviation Council will be hosting an aviation workshop featuring speeches from a survivor of the 2009 plane crash in New York's Hudson River and a former astronaut. The goal of the symposium is to promote the aviation industry and spur interest in the local community.
Kearney, Nebraska, news affiliate NTV reported plane crash survivor and flight attendant Doreen Welsch will discuss her life threatening experience crashing into the Hudson River, and former astronaut Story Musgrave will share stories of his six flights into space.
Also promoting aviation education, the FedEx Headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, opened its doors to 14 students interested in pursuing a career in the field. The event offered students a tour of the facilities, so they could see what goes on behind the scenes, and integrated extracurricular activities to provide students with deeper insight into the aviation industry, Utah Valley University's student-run newspaper, the UVU Review, reported.
One student, Josh Lapray, told the source that after taking the tour and learning about topics such as maintenance, safety and pilot insurance he had the motivation to complete his coursework and finish the requirements for his commercial pilot license. The experience helped him decide what type of flying he wanted to do after graduation, when he was presented with information on cargo pilots during the trip.
