Taylor De Ley, a 17 year old pilot from California, recently completed a 10,492 mile flight around the United States. De Ley, who flies a Van's RV-4 tailwheel airplane, completed the trip in just under 72 flying hours, experiencing no issues relating to weather, airspace or mechanical failure, according to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
An impressive navigational pilot, Delay noted that he was especially wary around Washington D.C., whose airspace he described as "intimidating," according to the source.
Taylor's father, Luc De Lay, lauded his son's maturity, passion and technical prowess, telling the AOPA, "He's 17 going on 45." With 340 total flying hours logged, Taylor hopes to pursue a career as a commercial pilot, though he intends to study accounting in college. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in May 2008, the median annual wages of airline pilots, copilots and flight engineers were $111,680.
For all pilots, whether they are private, business or commercial fliers, pilot insurance is an important piece of their personal portfolio. Pilots are subject to a unique set of health and safety concerns, and an optimized policy can provide proper coverage in the event of illness, accident or injury.
