AOPA plans to merge foundations

May 26, 2010, 07:30 pm

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association announced recently that two of its foundations will merge into one organization that will still have a focus on encouraging flight safety.

Craig Fuller, AOPA president, said the organization plans to bring together the AOPA Foundation with its Air Safety Foundation. Bruce Landsberg, who currently leads the air safety organization, will head the new arrangement.

Fuller said the current activities of the safety foundation will continue in the new organization. Those include online courses, safety seminars and instruction for flight trainers.

"In short, our mission is to keep pilots safe and safeguard the future of general aviation," Landsberg said.

Along with air safety, the organization will work to continue to encourage increasing the number of pilots in the country, along with promoting airports that service general aviation. It will also try to show the general populace the role this industry plays for the country.

For about a year now, the AOPA has run a national campaign that is trying to increase the visibility of general aviation with American consumers and members of the government. The initiative features celebrity spokesmen Harrison Ford and Morgan Freeman.ADNFCR-3158-ID-19802021-ADNFCR
