A program at Rohnerville Airport in Fortuna, California, introduces young people to the world of aviation through seminars, lessons and hands-on experience, according to the Humbolt Beacon. The program, led by instructors like Rey Urbach, a pilot and local physics teacher, touches on all aspects of flight, from the science of aviation to practical flight applications like military and emergency response operations.
Known as the Avi8cando Falcons program, sessions at the airport often lead to field trips that introduce students to the many different types of professional aviation, the source notes. One recent trip visited a nearby U.S. Coast Guard base, introducing students to Coast Guard aviation operations and opportunities for pilots and aviation specialists.
The program accepts students ages 12 to 19, and teaches participants about the many nuances of flight, including the importance and development of instruments as well as the practical application of physics principles that allow airplanes to fly.
Many general aviation pilots take advantage of groups and organizations based out of local airports that provide guidance on subjects like airplane ownership and estate planning for pilots. Pilot organizations often offer discounted rates on group pilot insurance policies.
