Cirrus Trial in case of MLB player Cory Lidle's death begins

The long awaited case against Cirrus in the death of Major League Baseball pitcher Cory Lidle's death has recently begun, multiple sources report.
Lidle, who was a pitcher for the New York Yankees, died in 2006 when the plane he was piloting crashed into an apartment building. His widow is suing the aircraft company in a $50 million wrongful death suit, claiming design flaws with the aircraft were to blame for the accident.
The argument is based on the claim that the control system for the Cirrus SR20 failed to adequately assist in the completion of a turn that the aircraft initiated to avoid an exclusion area, causing the aircraft to descend and hit the building.
According to earlier reports, Mrs. Lidle also sued the life insurance company, which refused to cover the accidental death benefit of her husband's policy. Additionally, she was unable to recoup funds from the Major League Baseball life insurance coverage Lidle had, as it only covered aviation accidents in which the player is a passenger, not a pilot.
To avoid these types of life insurance issues, it may be beneficial for pilots to seek coverage that caters to their recreation. Having pilot life insurance coverage may help give the loved ones of pilots more financial security, should a tragedy occur.
