Ohio Governor John Kasich recently declared December General Aviation Appreciation Month for the state, honoring those in the aviation community and the impact the industry has on its economy.
Kasich said that general aviation and community airports play a critical role in supporting law enforcement, medical providers, fire fighting, local businesses and residents throughout Ohio. In addition, general aviation contributes more than $5.5 billion to the economy every year.
“Aviation and local airports help to connect communities in Ohio and across the nation with commerce and critically-needed services and resources,” stated Henry Ogrodzinski, president of the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO). “We appreciate Governor Kasich’s proclamation, which raises awareness about the many benefits of general aviation and community airports. Ohio DOT Director Jerry Wray and Jim Bryant, the Ohio DOT Office of Aviation administrator, have always been strong and dynamic champions of the state’s essential general aviation infrastructure.”
Both Tom Hendricks, president and CEO of the National Air Transportation Association and Matt Zuccaro, president of the Helicopter Association International, commended Kasich for his support to general aviation.
Ohio is coming on the heels of Texas, which celebrated Aviation Appreciation Month in November, and Alabama and West Virginia, which honored general aviation in October.
Pilots supporting the far-reaching general aviation community should think about pilot life insurance to ensure loved ones are cared for.
