Delta to drop 25 flights in Memphis

In further efforts to turn a profit at its hub in Memphis International Airport, Delta Air Lines will cut 25 flights this fall.
"It's part of ongoing efforts to make Memphis work as a hub and find a level of success there that we can sustain," said Delta spokesman Trebor Banstetter.
Delta will drop down to 125 flights offered each day from Memphis starting in August to September. Destinations affected by the cuts include: Little Rock, Arkansas; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Philadelphia; and Columbus, Ohio, all going from three flights a day to two; and Tampa, Florida; Denver; and Springfield, Missouri, all going from two flights a day to one.
The primary reason for the unsuccessful hub and subsequent cuts is the location of the Memphis airport. It is relatively close to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International in Atlanta, so it doesn't have as much to offer.
On a positive note, a deal has recently been set up between Boingo Concourse Communications Group to open an exclusive Wi-Fi network at both O'Hare and Midway airports in Chicago for travelers to use for free, compared to the $6.95 cost per day for travelers.
Pilots servicing these airports should consider pilot life insurance, and even perhaps use the free Wi-Fi to research the best coverage.
