Amidst the ongoing battle in Congress regarding Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funding, Randy Babbitt, FAA administrator, and a handful of other high-level employees attended the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture on Thursday.
Addressing attendees of the aviation expo, Babbitt, who is a former certified flight instructor and airline pilot, said he was upset by the decreased appearance of the FAA at the AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He said he didn't think it fair that some FAA employees got to attend the convention while others are being forced to go without paychecks.
"We have so much respect for the dedication and enthusiasm for aviation that people have here - you live and breathe aviation," Babbitt said. "A lot of jobs have been put in jeopardy. Tens of thousands of families are not going to see a paycheck."
The FAA administrator made it clear that it's not just FAA employees who are losing money while Congress continues to debate reauthorization of the organization. In excess of 70,000 construction workers are currently out of work since the FAA has been forced to shut down airport improvement projects across the nation.
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association reports that there are approximately 618,660 certified pilots in the United States, all of whom can benefit from estate planning for pilots.
